Joey's Pick
SENORIO DE P.PECINA
RIOJA - CRIANZA
During our most recent in-house Spanish tasting this wine was thoroughly enjoyed by all those in attendance and rightfully deserving of this month's staff pick. As in this case, the majority of Rioja wines are made mostly with Tempranillo. Pecina's Crianza spent 24 months in American oak and 18 months in bottle that helped develop balance and structure. This is well beyond the designation requirements of a minimum one year in barrel and 12 months in bottle. The wine's characteristics reflect the hot and dry 2015 vintage.
In the glass we see an intense dark cherry colour with a slight orange rim. Aromas of deep ripe red fruit, slight smoke, game, vanilla and toasted notes immediately grabs your attention and sets up the invitation for your palate. Welcoming fresh fruit flavours, spice, minerality, smooth tannins and a gentle balsamic acidity on the palate precedes the long finish. Versatile pairing options, but with Manchego and Cheddar would satisfy most anyone. For those not in attendance at the tasting, now is a good time to sample this exceptional Spainard.
